Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, says the contributions of nurses go beyond medical duties, as they bring hope, comfort and humanity to healthcare and the society at large.
Soludo, also the Founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, made the remark on Tuesday in a message to mark the International Nurses Day.
International Nurses Day, is observed every May 12, to mark the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, pioneer of modern nursing and to honour nurses for their role in healthcare systems.
The theme for this year’s commemoration is – “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives”.
She described nurses as unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity continue to transform healthcare delivery.
“Behind every recovering patient is a dedicated nurse who often stays awake through the night, offering reassurance in moments of fear and anxiety, while providing care with patience, strength and love,” she said.
Soludo commended the dedication, sacrifice and resilience of nurses in Anambra and beyond.
She stressed that their commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families and uphold the dignity of communities.
“The world is healthier, kinder and safer because of the invaluable role you play,” she said.
She wished nurses a happy International Nurses Day and urged them to sustain their commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
