Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop, Diocese of Awka, His Grace, Most Rev Alexander Ibezim has charged Anambra state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to remain steadfastness in his reform agenda for continued growth and prosperity.
Ibezim gave the charge during the 1st Session of the 14th Synod of the Diocese of Awka held at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka.
The synod themed, “Repositioning the Church for the Future: A Focus on Youth Ministry,” attracted over 45 bishops across the country.
The Archbishop commended the state government’s ongoing efforts in transforming the state, including infrastructural development, economic reforms, educational advancement and human capital development.
“The introduction of free education in public primary and secondary schools remains a landmark achievements, ensuring wider access to quality education for children across the state.
“We acknowledge the recruitment of teachers, road construction projects and the promotion of digital literacy and vocational skills among youths as commendable steps towards sustainable development,” he added.
While congratulating the Governor and his deputy, Dr Onyeka Ibezim for their re-election, the Prelate prayed God to grant them greater wisdom, strength and direction for greater peace, progress and development in the state.
Growing insecurity regretted
Ibezim however regretted growing insecurity, economic hardship, inflation and national struggle prevalent across the country.
He called on federal government and security agencies to intensify efforts towards addressing them.
The Archbishop listed areas such efforts should be intensified to include intelligence driven policing, community protection and swift response to threats.
“The protection of lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of the state and every necessary step must be taken to ensure the safety of all citizens.
“We can on all Nigerians to remain vigilant and continue to pray, trusting God for peace, healing and restoration in our nation,” he added.
Also speaking, Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt Rev Samuel Ezeofor charged the church, families, and the entire society to listen to and create a conducive environment where young people can freely express themselves.
In his sermon, Bishop of Okene Diocese, Rt Rev Dr Emmanuel Onsachi, while quoting 1Tim 4:12 challenged the youths to believe in themselves to avoid being despised.
“If you believe in yourselves, no one will have any reason to despise you.
“You’re not a nonentity, you’re an asset, a sought after. Instead of people looking down on you, they’ll rather look up to you.
“Nothing will incapacitate your growth. Your potential will blossom. Your rod won’t get lost in the crowd,” he added.
