Breaking: NDC zones 2027 presidential ticket to South, approves 4-year single tenure

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria following its national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

The decision was announced through the party’s official communication channels, stating, “NDC presidential ticket is zoned to the South.”

The party further clarified that the arrangement is for a single four-year term, while the 2031 presidential ticket has been reserved for Northern Nigeria.

The convention brought together key party leaders and stakeholders, including prominent political figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, as part of broader deliberations on the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the agenda, delegates are also expected to consider zoning arrangements, ratification of amendments to the party constitution, and the election of new national executives to steer the party’s affairs.

The NDC has recently experienced a wave of defections from other political parties, including the ADC and PDP.

Notably, 17 members of the House of Representatives recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, with their movement announced during plenary.

Party leaders say the convention marks a consolidation phase aimed at strengthening internal cohesion and preparing the party for a competitive 2027 electoral cycle.
