Some aspirants seeking elective positions in All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra and other parts of the country have expressed concerns over the party’s screening requirements ahead of the 2027 exercise.
The development follows a directive issued by party leadership, mandating all aspirants for State and National Assembly seats to present original copies of their academic certificates and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them participate in the screening exercise at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Some aspirants who may be affected by the directive are reportedly making efforts to persuade the party leadership to reconsider its position.
Confirming the directive on Monday, APGA National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, said the party would not reverse the decision.
According to him, strict compliance with the requirements is necessary to ensure transparency and credibility in the screening process.
In the statement signed by Opara, the party directed aspirants to present the original copies of their highest academic qualifications for physical verification, alongside their original PVCs to confirm eligibility and membership status.
The statement further warned that photocopies and affidavits would not be accepted as substitutes for the required documents.
“Any aspirant who fails to present both documents will not be admitted into the screening hall,” the statement noted.
The party also clarified that the screening exercise remains free of charge and cautioned aspirants against making payments to individuals under any guise.
“Please comply strictly to avoid disqualification at the gate,” the statement added.
The directive has reportedly generated anxiety among some aspirants who fear possible disqualification if they are unable to meet the requirements before the screening exercise.
