The push to strengthen trust between security agencies and the public took centre stage on Saturday as the Inspector-General of Police, Olátúnjí Disu, paid a working visit to Lagos.

IGP Disu also had a stop over at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Disu’s visit followed an inspection of the nearby Rapid Response Squad (RRS) headquarters, where he previously served as Commander.

Addressing members of the Lagos State Governor’s Office Correspondents, he expressed delight at returning to a familiar environment.

He recalled the strong working relationship he built with journalists during his time at the RRS.

The IGP noted that the proximity between the squad’s base and the press centre had fostered collaboration, improved mutual understanding, and enhanced public communication.

The IGP explained that his Lagos itinerary also included meetings with senior police officers, an engagement with the state governor, and an address to RRS personnel.

He urged officers to maintain professionalism in the line of duty, warning against actions that could erode public confidence in the police.

Emphasising respectful engagement with citizens, he stressed that modern policing depends on strong community partnerships, where the public plays an active role in ensuring safety and security.

Disu appreciated journalists for their continued support urging sustenance of the cordial relationship between the media and the police.

Responding on behalf of the correspondents, Chairman George Okojie welcomed the IGP and described his appointment as well deserved.

He recalled Disu’s tenure as RRS Commander, highlighting his accessibility, responsiveness, and commitment to journalists’ welfare.

Okojie expressed confidence that Disu’s leadership would further enhance the operational effectiveness and public image of the Nigeria Police Force.
