Ogun State governorship aspirant Iyabo Obasanjo has suspended her ambition for the 2027 election following the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obasanjo, who is the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, announced her decision in a statement issued on Monday, April 13, 2026. She explained that her withdrawal followed Adeola’s adoption at a party caucus meeting held in Abeokuta.

Congratulating the APC candidate, she expressed appreciation to party leaders at both the state and national levels for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration,” she stated.

Obasanjo also thanked her supporters across Ogun State for their loyalty and calm support throughout her campaign, urging them to remain hopeful and united going forward.

Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the Senate, was endorsed as the party’s consensus candidate during the caucus meeting held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta.
