A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Maureen Gwacham, representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, has clarified a viral video clip from plenary, reaffirming her commitment to transparency and accountability.
In a statement on Wednesday, Gwacham said she was ‘momentarily caught off guard’ during proceedings.
” I was just settling into my seat when the Speaker beckoned on me to second the motion moved by Hon. Muktar Shagaya,” she said.
The lawmaker described Shagaya as a cerebral legislator with a reputation for moving credible motions.
The motion, titled “Urgent Need to Provide Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in Government Institutions and Public Buildings Across Nigeria to Prevent Avoidable Loss of Life,” seeks to strengthen emergency medical response infrastructure across the country.
Gwacham expressed appreciation to her constituents for their concern and support, reiterating her commitment to effective representation.
“My focus remains on delivering for the good people of Oyi/Ayamelum, and I appreciate the continued confidence they have reposed in me,” she said.
The motion, moved by Shagaya, calls for the provision of Automated External Defibrillators in public spaces nationwide to enhance emergency response and reduce preventable deaths.
