A 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 65-year-old relation, Joseph Dike.
The suspect killed his relation over purported family land dispute in Awka-Etiti, Idemli South LGA Anambra State.
He was identified as Okwuchukwu Ezimuo was said to have struck the deceased on the chest during a quarrel in Umunocha village.
The deceased was reportedly rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga Confirming the incident to newsmen.
Ikenga said the suspect was arrested by Operatives attached to the Nnobi Police Divisional Headquarters.
He said investigation has commenced.
“Anambra State Police Command has arrested one Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, male, 45, over the death of his relative over an alleged family land dispute in Awka-Etiti.
“Preliminary information reveals that the incident occured in the evening of Sept. 22,.
“The deceased, one Joseph Dike, male, 65, collapsed after being struck on the chest by the suspect during a quarrel.
“Following the incident, the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor on duty.
“The scene of the crime was visited and relevant evidence, including photographs was taken.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu urged residents to seek peaceful resolution to disputes and avoid violence at all times.
“He further directed that the Case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka.
“It will be discreetly investigated to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident, ” he said
