Tony Nwoye emerges Senate Minority Whip

Sen. Tony Nwoye

Sen. Tony Nwoye has emerged as the Senate Minority Whip following recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwoye, who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, was unanimously chosen by the minority caucus of the Senate to assume the position.

His emergence followed the defection of his predecessor, Sen. Osita Ngwu, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on Wednesday.

The development is part of a broader wave of defections within the upper legislative chamber, which has altered the composition of the minority leadership.

Nwoye is expected to coordinate minority lawmakers and articulate the position of opposition parties on legislative matters in the Senate.
