Trump deletes ‘Jesus-like’ image after fierce backlash across political and religious lines

Facing intense criticism, US President Donald Trump has taken down a controversial post on his Truth Social platform that depicted him in a Jesus-like role.

The AI-generated image showed Trump dressed in a white robe, placing a glowing hand on a sick man in a hospital bed—imagery critics said closely resembled traditional portrayals of Jesus Christ healing the sick.

The post quickly sparked outrage across the political spectrum, including from some of Trump’s own supporters and prominent conservative voices.

The background of the image featured patriotic symbols such as the Statue of Liberty, a large US flag, fighter jets, and an eagle, alongside figures like a praying woman, a nurse, and a uniformed soldier.

Trump later acknowledged sharing the image but downplayed its intent, telling reporters he believed it portrayed him “as a doctor” helping people recover.

“It’s supposed to be as a doctor making people better,” he said. “And I do make people better.”

However, backlash was swift and widespread. Christian activist Sean Feucht called for the post’s immediate removal, stating, “There’s no context where this is acceptable.”

Conservative commentator Riley Gaines also condemned the image, warning that “God shall not be mocked.”

Religious media figures joined the criticism, with David Brody describing the post as crossing a line, even for supporters of the president.

The controversy was further amplified by its timing, as the image was posted shortly after Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV, labeling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.”

The image was eventually removed hours later, as pressure mounted from both political allies and faith-based communities, underscoring the sensitivity surrounding religious symbolism in political messaging.
