Gubernatorial candidate of Labor Party, Chief George Moghalu on Thursday allayed fears that Mr Peter Obi might have dumped his party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The explanation followed Obi’s attendance to the campaign of the ADC State Assembly candidate for Onitsha North 1 bye-election .

The election is coming up on Saturday, Aug. 16, which had raised dust in some quarters.

Speaking during inauguration of the 21 local government area campaign Council, Moghalu said Obi had already explained why he attended the campaign rally.

“We shall be commencing the campaign tour of the 21 local government areas after the conduct of the bye-elections in Anambra South and Onitsha North 1.

“You all know that our party had challenges about the upcoming bye-election.

“But the party is still in court and I’m expecting situation reports.

“That was why our Presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi had to attend the campaign rally of the ADC State Assembly candidate for the by election in Onitsha.

“He has already issued a statement in that regard concerning the rally.

“He also announced that he would commence his own gubernatorial election campaigns for the Labour Party.

“In that statement Mr Peter Obi said he had to support the ADC candidate because our party has minimal issues.

“He however announced that after the bye-elections he would not only commence his own gubernatorial election campaigns for our party the Labor Party but also lead the candidate and running mate on the campaigns”

“So this is to tell all and sundry that there is no cause for alarm and to let us know that our Presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi remains a member of the Labor Party and is leading us in this campaign “he said.

Inaugurating the campaign Council Moghalu noted that the votes of the electorates must count.

He said such could only be possible if the votes were protected.

“There is no way this election can be rigged because when we make it impossible for them to rig, nobody can rig.

“We must resist any attempt for anybody to rig this election” he said.

Earlier, Director-General of Moghalu Campaign Organization, Mr Okey Chukwuogo said the essence of setting up the Campaign Council was for the members to be the eyes and ears of the party candidate.

He charged the council to continue with the mobilization.

State Chairman of the party, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh described the Nov.8 gubernatorial election as a make or mar exercise.

He said that it doesn’t stop at supporting the candidate but to reach out for more supporters.
