The 4th Annual Women’s Conference of the Worldwide Organization for Women (WOW) Africa. holds in Awka Anambra State tomorrow.
WOW Africa is a leading NGO championing SDG5 – Gender Equality in Nigeria and across Africa.
The WOW Conversations 2025 is themed “Beyond Boundaries: Women, Effective Visions, and Capacities for Global Change”.
In a statement, WOW Africa’s Director of Media, Ify Aronu-okafor, said the conference promises to be a landmark event.
She said the event would be building on insights from the 69th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW69) held at the UN Headquarters in New York in March 2025.
The statement reads in part, “According to Attorney Amaka Akudinobi, Executive Director of WOW Africa, ” The WOW Conversations 004 presents a unique opportunity to address the pressing issues affecting Nigerian women and girls.
“These include cultural stereotypes that limit their potential, social stratification that perpetuates inequality, and the pervasive violence against women and girls that hinders their progress.
Focus Areas
The statement lists the focus areas as women’s education, health, political participation, governance, social justice, poverty alleviation, and youth empowerment.
Emphasis is particularly on dismantling harmful gender norms and promoting inclusive societies.
“Moreover, we recognize that promoting successful families living is crucial for building resilient communities, where individuals can thrive and contribute to sustainable development.
“The theme for this year’s The WOW Conversations is “Beyond Boundaries: Women, Effective Visions, and Capacities for Global Change.”
“We are confident that deliberations at the program will chart clearer pathways for women’s empowerment in Nigeria, fostering impactful change and challenging systemic barriers that hold them back.
“The conference boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, including Keynote Speaker, Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice Awka, Ngozi Anuli Iwouno Esq. mni;
“Others are Deputy Director, Centre for Gender Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Ifeoma Ezinne Odinye; and Head, Product and Market Development, Anambra State Coordinating Office, National Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mrs. Edith Ikenye, among others.
The historic event will attract prominent men and women.
