Group demands immediate investigation over abuse of minor by guardian in Anambra

The Child Protection Network (CPN) has called for prompt, transparent and impartial investigation into the alleged abuse and maltreatment of a minor, Chiziterem Ozuligbo reportedly living as a domestic help under the care of an adult guardian.

State Coordinator, Anekwe Eucharia, Anambra State Chapter in a statement regretted that the circumstances surrounding the case were not only disturbing buy raised serious concerns about safety, protection and welfare of children placed in the care of others.

While condemning all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect and abuse against children, Anekwe maintained that those responsible for the dastardly act should be held accountable in accordance with the provisions of the law.

The statement reads, “We’ve received with profound concern reports and images circulating in the public domain regarding the alleged abuse and maltreatment of a minor, Chiziterem Franklin Ozuligbo, who was reportedly living as a domestic help under the care of an adult guardian.

“The circumstances surrounding this case, as presently reported, are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns about the safety, protection, and welfare of children placed in the care of others.

“While we acknowledge the need for due process and a comprehensive investigation, the allegations are grave and demand urgent attention from all relevant authorities.

Condemnation of violence

“The Child Protection Network strongly condemns all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse against children.

“Every child, irrespective of social or economic background, has an inherent right to protection, dignity, education, healthcare and a nurturing environment that promotes healthy growth and development.

“We call on law enforcement agencies, child protection institutions, and relevant government authorities to conduct a prompt, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter.

“Where evidence establishes wrongdoing, those responsible should be held accountable in accordance with the provisions of the law.

“CPN further urges community leaders, traditional institutbions, civil society organizations, faith-based groups, and concerned citizens to support efforts aimed at safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of children.

“Protecting children is a collective responsibility that requires vigilance, collaboration, and swift action whenever abuse is suspected or identified.

“Beyond ensuring justice, we emphasize the need for appropriate medical care, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, and reintegration services for the child to aid his recovery and restore his sense of safety and dignity.

“This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder that child abuse remains a significant challenge requiring sustained public awareness, stronger reporting mechanisms, and greater commitment to child protection at family, community, and institutional levels.

While reaffirming its commitment to advocating for policies, systems and actions that protect children and uphold their fundamental rights, CPN pledged solidarity with the victim and other children who had experienced abuse, neglect or exploitation.

“Justice for Chiziterem is not merely about addressing one case; it is about reinforcing society’s collective resolve that no child should suffer abuse without consequence,” she added.
