The Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) has ranked Kaduna, Delta and Anambra as the three best-performing states in Nigeria in its 2025 Governance Performance Index (CGPI).
According to the ranking, Kaduna State, under Gov. Uba Sani, topped the list with a score of 73 per cent, followed by Delta State, governed by Sheriff Oborevwori, with 70 per cent.
Anambra State, led by Gov Chukwuma Soludo, placed third with 65.5 per cent.
The report also showed that Niger State, under Gov.Mohammed Umar Bago, ranked fourth with 65.1 per cent, while Ekiti State, governed by Biodun Oyebanji, came fifth with 64.5 per cent.
Other states in the top 10 were Akwa Ibom (64 per cent), Lagos (64 per cent), Oyo (61 per cent), Enugu (56.5 per cent) and Borno (54 per cent).
The governors of the states occupying the sixth to 10th positions were Umo Eno, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Seyi Makinde, Peter Mbah and Babagana Zulum.
The report further indicated that Taraba State ranked 36th and last on the index with a governance score of 20 per cent.
The institute said the CGPI assesses governance performance across Nigeria’s states using indicators such as public service delivery, infrastructure development, economic management and citizen welfare.
It added that the ranking was aimed at promoting accountability, transparency and healthy competition among state governments in the country.
