‘Aunty Nkem’ of Tales by Moonlight fame celebrates 77

Veteran Nigerian television presenter, producer and director, Nkem Oselloka-Orakwue, popularly known as Aunty Nkem, has celebrated her 77th birthday.


The renowned broadcaster, who became a household name through the popular children’s television programme, Tales by Moonlight, was born on June 3, 1949.


In a goodwill message on Friday, Golden Oldies felicitated Oselloka-Orakwue, describing her as a passionate advocate for children’s rights and development whose contributions to broadcasting left an enduring impact on generations of Nigerians.


According to the group, Aunty Nkem devoted much of her career to creating platforms that gave children a voice and promoted their participation in societal issues.


It noted that beyond Tales by Moonlight, she also produced and presented notable programmes such as Speak Out and Society and Child during the 1980s and early 1990s.


The group further recalled that Oselloka-Orakwue served as a consultant to several international organisations and remained committed to the welfare and development of children throughout her professional career.


“She ensured that children were not only seen but also heard, using television as a platform to educate, entertain and empower young people,” it said.


Golden Oldies wished the veteran broadcaster good health, happiness and many more years of impactful service.


Oselloka-Orakwue is widely celebrated for her pioneering role in children’s television programming in Nigeria and for inspiring generations of young viewers through educational and cultural content.
