The Anthony Village NGCHUKS Lions Club has commissioned a power supply project at the Anthony Village Primary Health Care Centre in Lagos to support water supply and improve healthcare services.
The project, inaugurated by District Governor 404A3 Nigeria, Lion Mary Onu, PMJF NLCF, includes installation of an electricity meter and power connection to the facility.
Speaking during the inauguration, the Immediate Past President of the club, Lion Ekene Ajiri-Uwuseba, NLCF, said the intervention was aimed at sustaining an earlier water project executed by the club.
Ajiri-Uwuseba said the club had initially identified challenges faced by residents, especially those in nearby underserved communities, in accessing potable water.
She said the club subsequently installed water facilities, including tanks and related infrastructure, at the health centre.
According to her, the absence of electricity had limited the effectiveness of the water project because water pumping depended on generators.
“This place doesn’t have electricity. We cannot continue using generators to pump water because of the high cost and sustainability concerns.
“We then saw the need to install a meter and connect electricity to the facility so the water system can function effectively,” she said.
Ajiri-Uwuseba said the current leadership of the club completed the power connection project to ensure regular water supply whenever electricity was available.
She expressed optimism that the intervention would make life easier for residents and improve operations at the health centre.

Sustainability of Water Facility
Also speaking, the Zone Chairperson, Region 4 District, Lion Pascal-Okoye, NLCF, described the project as a major step toward ensuring sustainability of the water facility.
Pascal-Okoye said the club procured necessary materials, including armoured cables, and collaborated with the electricity provider to connect the facility to the power grid.
“We are confident that water will now be available daily, and funds have also been set aside to ensure the meter remains active every month,” she said.
In her remarks, the District Governor 404A3 Nigeria, Lion Mary Onu, PMJF NLCF, commended members of the club for sustaining the initiative and addressing challenges affecting its impact.
Onu said the project demonstrated the importance of continuity in community development efforts.
“It just makes our journey as Lions worthwhile. I congratulate all members of the club, the Zone and Region leadership for making this possible,” she said.
She also acknowledged collaboration with local authorities and urged continued partnership in supporting the health centre.
The project is expected to improve access to clean water and strengthen healthcare delivery at the facility.
