No fewer than 2,300 prospective corps members have been sworn in for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 orientation programme in Anambra.
The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Pauline Ojisua, disclosed this on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony held at the NYSC orientation camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area.
Ojisua said the figure comprised 1,080 males and 1,220 females, noting that all camp facilities and logistics had been put in place to ensure a smooth and impactful exercise.
“The orientation course is the foundation of the one-year national service.
“Corps members will undergo a three-week programme designed to instil discipline, patriotism, teamwork and other competencies required for nation-building.
“Activities such as military drills, physical training and sports will also enhance physical fitness, mental alertness and team spirit among corps members,” she said.
The coordinator also highlighted the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, saying it would equip participants with practical skills for self-reliance after service.
Ojisua congratulated the corps members on their deployment to Anambra and urged them to abide by NYSC rules, as well as all security guidelines.
She also urged them to conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of their families and institutions.
The coordinator commended the Anambra State Government for its sustained support to the scheme, particularly in the areas of welfare and security.
Gov. Soludo Assures Safety of Corps Members
In his address, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo urged the corps members to render dedicated service to Anambra and the nation.
Soludo, represented by Mr Ifeatu Emeodi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, commended the NYSC leadership at the national and state levels.
He particularly praised the State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, and her team for their dedication and professionalism.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the continuous upgrade of facilities at the State Orientation Camp to provide a safe, conducive and enabling environment for corps members.
The oath-taking ceremony was performed by the State Chief Judge, Justice O. M. Anyachebelu, represented by Justice A. O. Nwabunike.
