Prime suspect in pregnant nurse’s murder arrested in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a prime suspect linked to the killing of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed on Friday that operatives apprehended the suspect, Chibunna Nwafor, 26, also known as “Offonwadile,” at his hideout in Umueri community on February 11, 2026.

Ikenga said the arrest followed sustained community collaboration and intelligence-driven operations by the command.

“The Anambra State Police Command, through sustained community collaboration and intelligence-driven efforts, on February 11, 2026, took into custody one of the prime suspects in the killing of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area,” he said.

He explained that the police arrested Nwafor as part of ongoing investigations into the incident and have transferred him to a higher investigative formation for discreet proceedings.

Ikenga added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended members of the community for providing timely information that led to the breakthrough.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tracking down and prosecuting all individuals involved in the crime.

The police said investigations are ongoing and promised to provide further updates as developments unfold.
