President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a high-level delegation from the United States led by the Commander of the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), General Dagvin R. Anderson, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation included the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Keith Heffern, and other senior officials.

They were welcomed at the State House by President Tinubu.

Also present at the meeting were the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Nigeria’s service chiefs.

The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Mr. Dada Olusegun, disclosed this in a statement.

According to the statement, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside his National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and service chiefs, received in audience the Commander of the United States Africa Command, General Dagvin Anderson, his team, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Keith Heffern, at the State House, Abuja.”

Details still unknown

Details of the closed-door discussions were not immediately made public.

However, the visit underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.

This is amid persistent security challenges in the country and the wider West African region.

The engagement comes against the backdrop of growing military cooperation between both nations.

It also follows reports that the United States deployed a small team of troops to Nigeria on February 3, 2026.

That was the first official U.S. military physcal presence in Nigerian since airstrikes targeted terrorists positions on Christmas Day 2025.

Observers view the high-level meeting as part of broader strategic engagements.

They hope it will enhance counter-terrorism operations, intelligence sharing, and regional stability efforts.
