The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has issued a fresh flood alert for 198 LGAs across 32 states and the FCT.
The agency warned of high to very high flood risks between Aug. 7 and Aug. 21.
The alert has a reference No: 32-25-003-06—following rising river levels and sustained rainfall across the country.
The alert was released on Thursday by NIHSA Director General, Mr. Umar Ibrahim.
“Over 100 communities and several major transportation routes are at risk of severe disruptions during the forecast period.
The states expected to be affected include: Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta and Ebonyi.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, and Nasarawa were also affected.
Others are: Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Edo and Zamfara.
IA to talk of 198 Local Government Areas and 832 communities fall within the projected flood impact zones.
“Disruptions to major transportation corridors are likely,” the agency warned.
NIHSA has called on emergency management authorities to activate their response protocols.
It also urge them to prepare evacuation strategies for high-risk areas.
The agency also urged residents and stakeholders to closely monitor its weekly state and community-level forecasts.
