World Health Day: WHO urges action on maternal deaths

Dr. Walter Mulombo, World Health (WHO) Representative to Nigeria, urged Nigerians to adopt regular exercise for better health and well-being.

He spoke at the “Walk the Talk” event in Abuja to mark World Health Day, highlighting the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.”

The event aimed to raise awareness of maternal mortality and global health challenges.

Mulombo noted that the initiative encourages collaboration among the government, civil society, and communities to address health issues, including maternal mortality, before 2030.

He emphasized WHO’s support through programmes like MAMI, focused on reducing deaths among mothers and newborns.

Mulombo stressed the need for improved healthcare services and community engagement to tackle unacceptable maternal mortality rates and promote physical activity for better health.
