The crisis rocking the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a dramatic turn, with top party officials in Anambra State exchanging serious allegations over the management of party funds and internal affairs.

At the centre of the dispute are the State Chairman, Emma Anosike, and Arinze Awogu, who claims to be the party’s State Treasurer.

In a petition to the APC national leadership, Awogu accused Anosike of mismanaging and diverting more than N1 billion belonging to the party.

He alleged that funds raised during an APC fundraiser in Abuja and other contributions from stakeholders were not properly accounted for.

According to Awogu, over N100 million raised at a fundraiser in Awka, N150 million earmarked for the State Congress, nearly N200 million intended for delegates attending the APC South-East Zonal Congress, and more than N600 million meant for delegates to the party’s National Convention in Abuja remain unaccounted for.

He also alleged that over N100 million allocated for the recently concluded party primaries had disappeared.

Awogu claimed that several delegates who were supposed to benefit from convention funds never received their entitlements.

He further alleged that party donations and contributions were handled without proper records and accused Anosike of treating the party’s finances as a personal enterprise by disbursing funds through his private bank account.

Explaining the origin of their disagreement, Awogu said the dispute began on March 29, 2026, when he demanded greater accountability and the establishment of a transparent accounting system.

According to him, his request was met with hostility, leading to the alleged reassignment of his office to another party official.

He also accused Anosike of undermining his office and ignoring repeated complaints made to the party’s national and regional leadership.

Allegation of compromise

Awogu further alleged that the chairman compromised the party’s interests by accepting money from political opponents to ensure the emergence of weak candidates in some constituencies.

He cited Anambra East and Anambra West local government areas, alleging that credible aspirants who purchased nomination forms were prevented from contesting, leaving the APC without candidates in those areas.

Describing the chairman as compromised and incapable of leading the party into the 2027 general elections, Awogu called for Anosike’s removal.

He also accused him of creating factions within the party and fostering division among members.

The embattled party official urged influential APC stakeholders in the state to intervene urgently and prevent what he described as an imminent collapse of the party structure.

However, the Anambra APC swiftly dismissed all allegations against its chairman.

In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Dr. Val Iyke Oliobi, the APC maintained that Awogu was never elected State Treasurer and had never occupied the position.

The party stated that the duly elected treasurer is Chief Izeh Vincent Okafor, whom it described as a respected banker.

The party further claimed that Awogu only joined the APC through a support group during the last governorship election and no longer has the standing to interfere in party affairs.

According to the statement, Awogu has been expelled from the APC in line w
