Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has cautioned Nigerian students against cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice and other criminal acts, warning that such vices could destroy their future and undermine societal stability.

The Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Maku Olatunde gave this warning during inauguration of the National Executives of the National Union of Anambra State Students, NUASS at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

The Commandant, represented by Head of Media and Tactical Operations, SC Okadigbo Edwin noted that youths, especially students, remain critical stakeholders in the fight against vandalism and destruction of critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure.

While congratulating the newly inaugurated executives of NUASS and commending students for their role in nation-building, Olatunde warned them against the unlawful pursuit of wealth, cult-related activities and other social vices capable of truncating their academic pursuit and future.

He stressed that cultism has continued to claim lives, destroy dreams, and breach public peace across campuses.

Commitment reaffirmed

The State Commandant reaffirmed the commitment of NSCDC to serving the populace and enjoined the students to partner with the Corps in ensuring community safety within their academic environment.

He further charged them to be law-abiding and partner with the Corps by volunteering credible information on any act of vandalism, theft of telecommunication and power installations, manhole covers, streetlights, and other government assets in schools and communities where they reside.

Some students on the occasion

“NSCDC’s mandate is to protect critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure. You are the eyes and ears around these facilities. Report suspicious movements to us. Do not destroy what government laboured to build for your own benefit.

“NSCDC Anambra Command, under my leadership, remains committed to working with student bodies and other stakeholders to curb negative activities among youths to the barest minimum in the State,” he assured.
