Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Stanley Nkwoka has appointed former Treasurer of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the State, Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu as Supervisory Councillor for Finance of the Council area.
Handing over the appointment letter to Onwumelu at the Council Headquarters in Ogidi, the Council boss charged him to be diligent and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the area.
‘I am pleased to inform you that you have been appointed as the Supervisory Councillor for Finance, Idemili North Local Government Area.
‘This appointment is based on your proven integrity, competence, and commitment to public service.
“In this capacity, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial administration of the Local Government, ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective management of public funds in accordance with the established laws and regulations.
“Your appointment takes immediate effect,’ Nkwoka said.
Onwumelu’s past
Before his latest appointment, Onwumelu served as the Special Adviser to Idemili North Mayor On Youth Mobilization, Empowerment and Development.
He equally served as Media Aide to the Chairman of the Council and has built a reputation as a dedicated advocate for youth development.
Receiving his appointment letter, Onwumelu expressed gratitude to Idemili North Mayor for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to discharge his duties with diligence and integrity.
“I will live up to expectations and work tirelessly towards fulfilling the core mandate of my office.
“I thank my principal for the opportunity given to me to serve as the Supervisory Councillor for Finance.
“My promise is that I will not abuse the privilege or betray the trust,” he said.
Onwumelu has held several public and community leadership positions over the years. He previously served as Executive Assistant on Political Matters to former Governor, Willie Obiano. He also worked as a supervisor and volunteer for Chukwuma Soludo’s “1 Youth 2 Skills” initiative.
In the media and political communication space, he served as Editor-in-Chief of APGA New Media. He was also twice elected Youth Leader of the Uruegbe Umuoji Youth Development Association.
At the national level, Onwumelu currently serves as National Publicity Secretary/PRO of the Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria (UIUN) and equally holds the position of the Vice President of the Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria (UIUN), Awka Branch.
Onwumelu, a Knight of the Ancient and Noble Order of the Knights of Saint John International (KSJI), and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, is an active figure in youth development, political communication, and community leadership in the State.
