Today, Monday, May 25, 2026, marks the anniversary of several remarkable events in world history, spanning politics, science, culture, space exploration and civil rights.

One of the most significant events associated with this date is the opening of the United States Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787.

Delegates gathered to revise the Articles of Confederation but eventually drafted the U.S. Constitution, which became one of the world’s most influential democratic documents.

On this day in 1961, U.S. President John F. Kennedy addressed Congress and declared America’s ambition to land a man on the Moon before the end of the decade.

This challenge ultimately led to the historic Apollo 11 Moon landing in 1969.

May 25 also marks the release of the original Star Wars film in 1977.

The movie, created by George Lucas, became one of the most successful and influential film franchises in cinematic history.

In sports history, legendary baseball player Babe Ruth hit the 714th and final home run of his career on May 25, 1935, a record that stood for decades.

Killing of George Floyd
