The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to confront the country’s growing security challenges through the deployment of advanced combat technology, enhanced troop welfare, and institutional reforms.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this at the close of the Chief of Army Staff Bi-Annual Conference held in Abuja.
Addressing senior military officers and key stakeholders, Shaibu revealed that the Army has acquired additional TB2 drones and is expanding the Nigerian Army Aviation to strengthen combat operations nationwide.
According to him, the newly acquired capabilities are already enhancing intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, precision strikes, and casualty evacuation in various theatres of operation across the country.
The Army Chief stressed the need for the military to remain proactive, adaptive, and innovative in responding to evolving security threats.
He noted that deliberations during the three-day conference centred on practical solutions aimed at improving operational effectiveness, advanced training, and institutional reforms geared toward building a more professional, technology-driven force.
Troop welfare
On troop welfare, Shaibu said the Army was implementing several intervention projects across formations to improve the living and working conditions of personnel.
He maintained that motivated troops perform more effectively in the line of duty, adding that welfare initiatives such as prompt payment of entitlements, improved healthcare services, educational support, and enhanced welfare packages remain central to his “soldier-first” leadership philosophy.
The COAS also urged commanders to ensure that resolutions reached during the conference translate into measurable operational results within their various commands.
Shaibu further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support towards the transformation of the Nigerian Army.
He also appreciated defence authorities, other security agencies, and the media for their collaboration in advancing national security objectives.
