President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He succeeds Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is expected to consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership while strengthening JAMB’s operations through innovation, technology and institutional reforms.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the incoming registrar’s capacity to reposition the examination body, noting that his expertise and practical knowledge would help take the organisation to greater heights.
“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” the statement read.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Aina is regarded as a systems and digital infrastructure expert with vast experience in national examination systems and public-sector reforms.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.
He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Aina’s relationship with JAMB
Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) days, when he first worked with the Board and gained experience in national admissions processes and data-driven systems.
With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, he has worked at the intersection of technology, policy and institutional transformation, advising both federal and state governments on digital transition and system reforms.
At 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also consulted for examination bodies such as NECO and NABTEB, providing expertise in ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process optimisation.
Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
