The second term ambition of Nonso Atuchukwu, member representing Nnewi South I Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has received a major boost as the Obataifeadi Women Group, comprising over 600 members, officially endorsed his re-election bid.
The Obataifeadi Women Group is a unique political and empowerment organization committed to promoting the welfare of women and children.
The operate across the communities of Unubi, Ekwulummili, Azigbo, Osumeyi, and Utuh, which make up Nnewi South Constituency I.
At their meeting on Monday, members of the group unanimously declared their support for Hon. Atuchukwu’s return to the State Assembly.
They described him as “a man of integrity and a promise keeper.”
The Convener of the group, Mrs. Ebere Mbanefo, emphasized the important role women play in society, noting that the foundation of a responsible society begins with the family.
She urged women to continue supporting their husbands and children spiritually, morally, and physically for the overall progress of the community.
Justifying the group’s endorsement, Mbanefo stated that Atuchukwu has, over the past three years, demonstrated sincerity, commitment, and responsiveness to the needs of his constituents.
According to her, members of the Obataifeadi Women Group have benefited immensely from the lawmaker’s empowerment initiatives.
“It is common for politicians to make promises during campaigns and abandon the people after securing victory, but Hon. Atuchukwu has proven to be different,” she said.
“He has placed 21 widows in this group on a six-month financial support scheme.
“Beyond that, members of this group and the entire constituency can testify to the quality representation he has provided.
“His empowerment programmes are uncommon and unprecedented.
“Youths, women, and men across Nnewi South I are benefiting from his constituency projects, which are spread across the constituency.
Envy of other constituencies
“Today, we have become the envy of many other constituencies.”
Mrs. Mbanefo later led the group in special prayers for the lawmaker and his political aspirations.
In his remarks, Nonso Atuchukwu said he attended the meeting to formally inform the group of his intention to seek re-election.
“It is also to appreciate them for their continued prayers, support, and commitment to good governance.
The lawmaker highlighted some of his achievements in the Anambra State House of Assembly assuring constituents that his second term would focus on consolidating the gains already recorded.
“The second term will be a period of consolidation of the good works we have started.
“I assure you that no one will be left behind. We are partners in progress, and together we will continue to move our constituency to greater heights,” he stated.
Atuchukwu also expressed his willingness to sustain collaboration with the Obataifeadi Women Group.
He commended the members for their passion and dedication toward the welfare of women and children in the LGA.
The lawmaker further encouraged the leadership of the group to motivate more women to participate actively in politics.
He assured them of his continued support at all times.
