The faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has nominated Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as Chairman and Taofeek Arapaja as Secretary of the party’s Interim National Working Committee (INWC).
The decision was taken at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened by two-thirds of members of the group, acting on the directive of the Board of Trustees (BoT).
The meeting also reinstated all former National Working Committee (NWC) members elected in Ibadan, Oyo State, last year—an exercise earlier nullified by the Supreme Court.
At the start of proceedings, Esther Udehi, a NEC member from Delta State, moved a motion appointing BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, as protem Chairman to preside over the 103rd NEC meeting.
The motion was seconded by Fred Agbedi, a member of the House of Representatives.
In his acceptance speech, Turaki assured that the PDP would field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general election.
His appointment to head the 13-member Interim NWC followed a motion moved by Edo State PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi and seconded by the party’s ex officio member, Clement Fagboyede.
The NEC meeting was attended by several party leaders, including Seyi Makinde, Adolphus Wabara, founding PDP National Secretary Prof. Jerry Gana, and former Niger State governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.
Former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, former Women’s Affairs Minister Hajiya Inna Ciroma, former PDP Women’s Leader Hajiya Zainab Maina, and former Osun State governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola were also in attendance.
