Breaking: Obi, Kwankwaso meet NDC leaders in Abuja

ADC meeting

Some hours after his defection from the African Democratic Congress, (ADC), former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso have held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress at the Abuja residence of its National Leader, Seriake Dickson.

The meeting is widely viewed as part of ongoing efforts by opposition figures to reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi and Kwankwaso were received at around 5:18p.m. by a cheering crowd of supporters under the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, who were chanting “O-K is okay”.

The meeting came less than 24 hours after Buba Galadima, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party, disclosed that two prominent politicians were set to unveil a new political platform on Monday.

Galadima made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja, fueling speculation about shifting alliances within the opposition.

Although he did not name the platform, sources close to the former governors indicated that both leaders are finalising plans to align with the Nigeria Democratic Congress, a relatively new platform.

Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and a key northern political figure, remains central to coalition talks, with his support base viewed as crucial to any viable opposition alliance.

Obi has equally gathered momemtum in national politics after an eventful presidential bid in 2023 under his former Labour Party.

The emergence of alternative platforms such as the Nigeria Democratic Congress suggests a possible strategic shift by opposition figures aiming to consolidate influence beyond existing party structures.
