Abia 2027: Stakeholders mount pressure on Benjamin Kalu, purchase APC governorship forms

A coalition of political stakeholders and opinion leaders has drafted the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, into the Abia State governorship race.

Presenting the forms to Kalu in Abuja, the stakeholders explained that their resolve was propelled by his strong track record in public service and leadership at the national level.

Their spokesperson, James Uko-Kalu – Senior Advocate of Nigeria, described the Deputy Speaker as a unifying figure whose performance in the National Assembly has set him apart as a capable and effective leader.

He noted that since his election into the House of Representatives in 2019, Kalu has made significant legislative contributions, including his tenure as House spokesperson and now as Deputy Speaker.

“We have closely followed his work and can confidently attest to his outstanding performance and the tangible impact he has made on Nigeria’s legislative process,” Uko-Kalu said.

He added that Kalu’s leadership style—anchored on consensus-building, peace, and inclusiveness—is exactly what Abia State needs at this time.

Also speaking, retired Major General Jack Nwaogbu commended Kalu for promoting unity within the APC in Abia State and across the South-East.

He observed that the party, which struggled with internal divisions during the 2023 general elections, has recently experienced renewed cohesion and revitalisation.

In the same vein, Uzo Azubuike, representing Abia South Senatorial District, described the delegation as “messengers of the people,” conveying a collective appeal for Kalu to contest the governorship.

Wide consultation promised

In his response, Kalu expressed gratitude to the stakeholders, describing their gesture as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership.

He assured them that he would consult widely with political stakeholders and supporters before making a final decision.
