The Anambra Patriots has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting credible and accountable leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group made the commitment during interaction with Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Chuma Okoye.

Okoye is aspiring for Awka North and South Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Chairman of Anambra Patriots, Chief Damian Enekwechi said the group’s focus remained ensuring only candidates with proven competence and integrity received support of the people.

He assured continued provision of formidable platform for constructive engagement between political aspirants and the people.

He said, “We’re not conventional support group with one singular agenda and no commitment to a person’s electoral success.

“Our target is to ensure that only candidates with proven competence and integrity enjoy the backing of the people.

“While we remain open to all aspirants, our ultimate support will be determined by capacity, track record, credibility and people’s overall interest”.

Group Convener, Mr Okey Ezeobi restated the group’s commitment to engaging and supporting individuals dedicated to the development of the state.

Commitment to good governance

“Anambra Patriots is a self-funded initiative guided by strong convictions and commitment to good governance.

“It’s the desire of every Anambra citizen to be led by a good leader. We remain committed to producing best leaders for the state,” he added.

Deputy Speaker explained his ambition to represent Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

He said it was informed by the desire to expand his impact and deliver more democratic dividends to the people.

While presenting his scorecard as the lawmaker representing Awka South II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Okoye challenged other aspirants to a public debate on what they were capable of offering.

“Representation is about being present and close to the people you’re representing in order to understand their needs.

“I ventured into politics to positively impact more lives. I’ll not only replicate my good works at the State Assembly, but will even do more with constituency funds from the federal government.

“With my antecedents, I stand better chance of securing better positions at the federal level.

“And I’m sure with your support in the forthcoming elections, I’ll make it,” he assured.

Other speakers at the event, including Coordinator of Anambra Patriots in Awka South One Constituency, Mr. Charles Nweke and his Awka South Two Constituency counterpart, Mr. Uche Nwocha said Okoye’s achievements as well as his accountability in office formed part of the reasons for their support for him.
