Police in Anambra state have arrested three suspected kidnappers inside a bush at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili South south Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this on Friday said Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi arrested the suspects.
He said the operatives also rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of ₦469,000 from the suspects.
Ikenga said, “the team recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) from the suspects.
All male suspects
“The three suspects arrested at the scene, all males include: Chidalu Obi 25 years, Chichebem Ojenigbo 26 years and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20 years respectively.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job.
Upon arrival at the location, they forcefully blindfolded the victim at gunpoint and took him to the bush, where they held him captive.
“Meanwhile, the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting a ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000), which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.
“The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information.”
