FirstPower tasks staff on commitment, resilience amid challenges

FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has urged staff of the company to remain committed, resilient, and forward-thinking in the discharge of their duties, despite the prevailing challenges in the power sector.

Managing Director, Mr. Okechukwu Okafor gave the charge during his visit to the Ekwulọbịa District of the company in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

During the visit, he held a strategic engagement session with staff of the company under the District.

The visit, witnessed by the FirstPower Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Ndubuisi Okpara; and the Head Taskforce, Mr. Sam Okorie, saw the MD undertake a comprehensive and motivational engagement with the workforce.

The aim was to strengthen operational efficiency and ethics, addressing pressing concerns, and reinforcing the company’s service delivery mandate.

The FirstPower boss emphasized the importance of discipline, teamwork, and innovation as key drivers of success in the evolving electricity distribution landscape.

The MD who spoke on the topic “The Audacity of Hope,” charged the workers to embrace a mindset of possibility and determination.

Collective resolve

He stressed that transformation within the district and the industry at large begins with individual and collective resolve to rise above limitations.

The MD highlighted how perseverance, adaptability, forward looking, and a solution-driven approach had helped him navigate complex professional terrains.

He encouraged the staff to draw lessons from such experiences and apply them in tackling their day-to-day responsibilities.

Highlighting some of the challenges facing the power sector, the FirstPower DisCo, and the specific challenges of Ekwulọbịa District, he underscored issues such as energy losses, customer dissatisfaction, infrastructure gaps, and operational inefficiencies.

He challenged the staff to take ownership of their roles, improve response time, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

The MD also cautioned them against negligence, sharp practices, and actions capable of undermining their progress and the company’s reputation at large.

He further reiterated Management’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for optimal performance.

Okafor also advised the staff to see their current positions and roles as preparatory grounds and launching pad for greater heights and levels in future.

He enjoined each of them to rely on that philosophy to work towards building a reference-worthy legacy that they and the company would be proud of.

Transformative thinking

While calling for transformative thinking and renewed dedication, the MD charged the staff to align with the company’s vision of delivering reliable and customer-focused electricity services.

He assured them of his special support, particularly in addressing operational constraints, infrastructural constraints, and providing the necessary tools and leadership support required to succeed, progress, and excel.

The interactive session also provided an opportunity for staff to share feedback, ask questions, and seek clarifications on key operational issues affecting the district.

District Business Manager for Ekwulọbịa District, Mr. Everistus Obeta, expressed appreciation to the MD for the visit, describing it as highly anticipated, impactful, and morale-boosting.

He noted that the engagement had reinvigorated the workforce and strengthened their commitment to improved service delivery.

Obeta further assured the Management of the district’s readiness to implement the directives and insights shared during the session.

He also pledged sustained dedication to the company’s goals and objectives.
