INEC to delist Mark-led ADC NWC, suspends dealings over leadership dispute

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will remove the Sen. David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from its portal, following a leadership dispute in the party.

INEC also said it would cease all dealings with any faction of the party pending the determination of a substantive suit before the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.

Haruna said the decision was based on the Court of Appeal judgment delivered on March 12 in the case between Sen. David Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe, which directed parties to maintain the status quo.

He said the commission, after reviewing the judgment and ongoing court processes, resolved to revert to the situation as it existed before Sept. 2, 2025, when the suit was filed.

According to him, INEC will not recognise any faction, monitor meetings or receive correspondence relating to the party’s affairs until the court determines the case.

He added that the commission had earlier received conflicting communications from parties in the dispute, urging it to either recognise or delist opposing leadership groups.

Haruna said INEC also declined requests to recognise Gombe as acting national chairman, insisting on strict compliance with court orders.

He reiterated the commission’s commitment to neutrality and urged political parties to act responsibly to avoid disrupting preparations for the 2027 general elections.
