The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Naziru Abdulmajid, has led officers and personnel of the command on a six-kilometre walkathon in Maiduguri, as part of activities marking the National Police Week.

The exercise, designed to promote peace, strengthen community partnership, and build public confidence in law enforcement, commenced at the Borno State Police Command Headquarters.

Participants moved through key routes in the city, reaching Kofan Shehu before returning to the starting point.

The walkathon drew wide participation, including officers of the command, community leaders, and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

Their involvement underscored a shared commitment to fostering stronger collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.

Speaking to journalists during the event, CP Abdulmajid highlighted the critical role of community engagement in effective policing.

He stressed that maintaining security is a collective responsibility that extends beyond the police force to include every member of society.

The CP urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive by reporting suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security agency.

He also called for continued support for security personnel and local volunteers working to ensure safety across the state.

According to the Commissioner, the walkathon forms part of a broader, week-long programme of activities organised to commemorate National Police Week.

The initiative began with sanitation exercises and medical outreach services, while subsequent days are dedicated to community-focused events such as the walkathon and other engagement programmes.

The series of activities, he noted, reflects the command’s commitment not only to maintaining law and order but also to building trust, encouraging dialogue, and strengthening ties with the public in pursuit of a safer and more secure Borno State.
