FG fixes March 31 deadline for civil servants’ verification

The Federal Government has fixed March 31 as deadline for the verification of civil servants in the pool of the Federal Civil Service.

This is contained in a memo signed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack.

The memo warned that civil servants who fail to comply with the directive risk suspension from the Federal Government payroll.

It stated that the directive was part of ongoing efforts to eliminate ghost workers and strengthen transparency within the civil service.

According to the memo, the Personnel Audit and Skills Gap Analysis (PASGA) comprises two mandatory components: personnel verification, and skill assessment and competency analysis.

It urged all federal civil servants who had yet to complete either or both components of the exercise to do so on or before March 31, 2026, to qualify for the issuance of Certificates of Completion.

“All staff are required to submit their Skills Assessment Completion Certificate and Personnel Verification Completion Certificate as evidence of having concluded the entire exercise to the Director of Human Resource Management of their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” it stated.

The memo added that officers who fail to comply would be liable to administrative sanctions in line with extant rules and regulations, including possible suspension from the payroll pending compliance.

It also directed Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments to give the circular wide publicity to ensure strict compliance.

The Federal Government in 2025 launched the PASGA to evaluate the composition and competencies of the civil service workforce.

The audit is expected to identify staffing gaps, address skill deficiencies and guide policy decisions on recruitment, career progression and resource allocation to enhance efficiency in the service.
