Former Senator, Stella Oduah, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election for the Anambra North Senatorial Zone.
The Returning Officer for the election, Mr. Maxwell Udechukwu, announced the result at the Onitsha North Local Government Headquarters, stating that Oduah polled 22,726 votes to defeat her closest rival, Chief Primus Odili, who secured 9,847 votes.
According to him, Mr. Emeka Okechukwu garnered 7,570 votes, while Dr. Alexander Obiogbolu scored 6,945 votes in the keenly contested primary.
In a related development, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze, clinched the APGA ticket for Ogbaru State Constituency II.
The Returning Officer, Mr. Barnabas Enere, disclosed that Udeze scored 7,187 votes to defeat his challenger, Mr. Enebeli Victor, who polled 168 votes.
Also, Mr. Chukwuka Onyema secured the party’s ticket for the Ogbaru Federal Constituency after polling 9,488 votes to defeat two other aspirants.
Outcome reveals people’s will
Speaking shortly after his victory, Udeze, who is seeking re-election to represent Ogbaru Constituency II for another four-year term, expressed gratitude to his constituents for the confidence reposed in him, describing the outcome as a reflection of their continued support.
Meanwhile, Mr. Noble Igwe, representing Ogbaru Constituency I, also emerged as APGA candidate for re-election after polling 1,823 votes to defeat three other aspirants, including the incumbent local government chairman, Mr. Kenneth Akwuobi, who scored 435 votes.
The Returning Officer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ogunnaegbunam, however, noted that the exercise in Okpoko Ward 3 was disrupted following the alleged snatching of result sheets by hoodlums, but added that the incident did not affect the overall outcome of the election in the area.
The primaries were conducted across the 326 wards in Anambra State, with the party adopting the Option A4 voting system for the exercise.
