Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered a full investigation into the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from workers’ salaries by the former State Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa.

The governor made the announcement while addressing labour unions during the 2026 May Day rally held at Sani Abacha Stadium.

The directive comes shortly after the former Head of Service was relieved of his appointment.

“Following the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from the workers’ salaries by the former Head of Service, I hereby order an investigation into the allegation,” the governor said.

Governor Yusuf warned that anyone found culpable would face consequences, assuring workers that justice would be served and stolen funds recovered.

“This government is for you, and will work for you, so what it needs from you is your support and commitment to work,” Yusuf said.

Addressing the issue of outstanding gratuities and death benefits, the governor pledged to clear the remaining N16 billion owed to retirees before the end of his first term in 2027.

“Alhamdulilahi we have been able to offset N32 billion out of the N48 billion we inherited from the previous administration, and by the grace of God, the N16 billion will be cleared before the end of this tenure,” he said.

Earlier, the Kano State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Kabir Inuwa, commended the administration for prompt salary payments and the settlement of N32 billion in retirees’ benefits, while urging the government to clear the outstanding balance.

“This has restored the dignity of workers who served the state for the most part of their lives,” Inuwa said.
