Kebbi launches 50 new buses to ease transportation burden

The Kebbi State Government has officially commissioned 50 newly acquired 18-seater buses to boost mass transit within the state and across regional routes.

This marks a major step toward improving public transportation.

The State Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Hayatuddeen Bawa, unveiled the buses at the newly constructed Ultra-Modern Park in Birnin Kebbi.

Bawa explained that government designed the initiative is designed to ease the transportation challenges faced by residents, particularly those embarking on long-distance journeys.

He noted that Kebbi had previously stood out as the only state in Nigeria’s northwest without a structured mass transit system

This makes the introduction of these buses a significant milestone in addressing mobility gaps and enhancing connectivity.

The commissioner commended the efforts of Governor Nasir Idris for investing in the transport sector, describing the procurement of the buses as a people-centered intervention.

He urged beneficiaries to manage the vehicles responsibly to ensure sustainability and encourage further investments in the scheme.

Bawa also emphasized the importance of safety and professionalism among drivers, cautioning against overloading, reckless driving, and excessive speed.

The commissioner stressed the need for proper maintenance and high service standards to guarantee the longevity and reliability of the buses.

Timely deployment

In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Association of Transport Owners (NATO), Kebbi State chapter, Ali Aliyu, expressed appreciation to the state government for the initiative.

He described the deployment of the buses as a timely intervention that will significantly improve transportation both within Kebbi and to neighboring states.

Also speaking, the Deputy Corps Commandant (Operations) of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kebbi State, Musa Danladi, assured the public that safety remains a top priority.

He revealed that all drivers assigned to the buses underwent thorough screening and testing before being entrusted with the vehicles.

Danladi added that the drivers have been strongly advised to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, reinforcing the commitment to safe and efficient transport services across the state.

The launch of the new buses is expected to significantly reduce travel stress for residents while strengthening Kebbi’s transport infrastructure and economic connectivity.
