INEC launches nationwide voter revalidation to safeguard electoral integrity

Revalidation

As Nigeria prepares for future elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a critical nationwide voter revalidation exercise aimed at cleaning up the voter register and protecting citizens’ voting rights.

Beginning on April 13, 2026, the exercise targets millions of Nigerians who registered between 2011 and 2024.

According to INEC, this is not a new voter registration process but a necessary step to confirm and secure existing voter records, ensuring accuracy and transparency in the electoral system.

INEC officials emphasized that maintaining an updated voter register is essential to preventing irregularities and ensuring that every valid vote counts.

Citizens who fail to participate in the revalidation risk losing their voting eligibility, a consequence that could leave many disenfranchised on election day.

To make the process accessible, INEC has provided both online and in-person options.

Eligible voters can complete their revalidation via the official portal or visit designated INEC centers nationwide, which will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., including weekends.

The commission is urging Nigerians not to delay, warning that last-minute attempts could lead to avoidable complications.

“Don’t wait until election day to discover your name is missing,” the commission cautioned.

With the initiative, INEC aims to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process while ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has a fair opportunity to be counted.

As the countdown begins, the message is clear: revalidate now, secure your vote, and take your place in shaping the nation’s future.
