Pope Francis is dead. He passed away on Monday (today) at the age of 88.

The Catholic leader was reportedly born on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

A brief message posted by the Vatican on its 𝕏 handle said that Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, in his home in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.

Vice president of the United States of America, James David Vance met privately with Pope Francis in the Casa Santa Marta around 11:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.

According to the Holy See Press Office, the meeting which lasted a few minutes, gave Vance an opportunity to exchange Easter pleasantries with the Pope, .

Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher greeted Vance on Saturday morning when he arrived at the Secretariat of State.

“A friendly discussion was held during which the shared commitment to defend the rights of religious freedom and freedom of conscience was reaffirmed.

“Additionally, opinions on the global situation were shared, with an emphasis on war-torn nations, political unrest, and challenging humanitarian circumstances.

According to the Holy See Press Office, “Special attention was paid to migrants, refugees, and prisoners.

“Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, presided over the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday.

The US vice president, his wife, and their three children attended the service which held at Saint Peter’s Basilica.
