Comrade Emma Powerful has resigned as the spokesperson and Media and Publicity Secretary of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following controversy surrounding a sit-at-home order scheduled for Feb. 2.
Power made the announcement in a statement released on Saturday night.
He said his resignation followed internal developments within the organisation after the sit-at-home directive was reportedly viewed by IPOB leadership as detrimental to development efforts in the South-East.
He added that the development led to his being barred from further speaking on behalf of the group.
Powerful said his decision, which took effect on Jan. 31, was reached after deep reflection and consultation with his conscience.
He noted that unfolding realities and internal contradictions within the movement made it difficult for him to continue in his role in good conscience.
He stated that remaining silent or acting as though all was well would amount to betraying his principles.
“Jan. 31 marked my final day of issuing statements or communications connected to IPOB, and that any publication bearing my name afterward should not be attributed to him,” he said.
Powerful also expressed gratitude to individuals who supported his work during his tenure and wished all parties well in their future engagements.
