The Anambra State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, Mr Bernard Udemezue, for an additional three months.
The suspension which was due to alleged non-compliance with House rules and engagement in unparliamentary conduct, is without pay
The decision followed the recommendations of the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, presented during plenary.
According to the report, Udemezue was expected to tender a written apology to the Speaker and members of the 8th Assembly.
He was also to issue a public apology on his social media platforms within five days, effective from Nov. 26.
He was also barred from accessing the Assembly premises throughout the suspension period.
The committee, however, noted that the lawmaker failed to comply with any of the directives, as he neither submitted a written apology nor made any conciliatory post on his social media handles.
Chairman of the committee and Majority Leader, Mr Ikenna Ofodeme, told the House that despite the resolution of Aug. 28, Udemezue continued to use his Facebook page to ridicule the Assembly.
He further revealed that the lawmaker violated the suspension order by appearing at the legislative chambers on Tuesday, Nov. 25, allegedly with the intention of disrupting proceedings.
