People of Anyamelum in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra state have condemned what they termed politicization of government projects in the community by opposition parties.
The condemnation followed trending video showing some youths moving round the newly commissioned General Hospital, alleging that the facility was empty and non-functional
The youths suspected to be members of opposition party, in the video accused Governor Chukwuma Soludo of scamming the people with non-existent projects.
But addressing newsmen during the facility tour led by Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, President General of Anaku community, Mr Onyebuchi Nwuba described the action as purely handiwork of opposition, warning perpetrators to desist forthwith or face the consequences.
He vowed that the community would not fold it hands and watch opposition elements rubbish the good works of the governor, promising him of unraveling perpetrators of the act.
The PG also pledged the community’s readiness to take full ownership and protection of the hospital and other projects in the area.
He said, “We’re not part nor in support of the controversial video. It’s purely the handiwork of opposition. We’re very sorry for the ugly development.
Over politicisation
“It’s unfortunate the way people politicize everything just to rubbish the good of their opponent.
“But we won’t tolerate anyone trying to politicize development in this community, including the hospital.
“We’re taking full ownership of the facilities and ready to protect them.
“This hospital is our life. All the surgeries here are done free of charge.”
The people appreciated the governor for remembering the community after decades of abandonment.
They prayed he returned for second term to continue the good work he’s doing.
“I’m here with the leaders of various age grades to appreciate the governor and Commissioner for Health for this hospital.
“We’ve been longing for this for decades. We’re glad at last, the hospital is a reality in Anyamelum.
“Before now, we access healthcare as far as Onitsha and Otuocha as there was no single hospital in the area.
“The distance and the deplorable condition of our roads worsened our case.
“Before we take a patient to any hospital outside this community, some die on the road.
Clarifying the trending video, Chief Admin of the hospital, Chiedozie Otuonye described as worrisome.
He condemned the extent individuals could go in scuttling development in the name of politics.
He said the same day the hospital was commissioned, about seven surgeries took place.
There was another successful birth delivery was successfully on the same of the day.
“They just entered and were shouting that ‘someone was dying’ and fondling with the door knob, without opening the door.
“They videoed it and shouted that the hospital is a scam and when we opened the door to know what was happening, they ran away.
“We gathered that it was an APC member and two touts that came on that mission, and their bid was just to discredit the work of the state government
“What they did was stage-managed. Every equipment brought here is intact.
“The hospital was commissioned a day before and that day they came, patients and personnel were inside.
“Over the weekend, we had about five hernia surgeries,” he revealed.
