Rotary Club of Onitsha, District 9142, has commissioned a newly repainted four-classroom blocks at New Bethel Nursery and Primary School in Onitsha North LGA,  Anambra.

Rtn. Joy Mbadugha, Club President, while commissioning, said it’s the Club’s commitment to promoting literacy.

Mbadugha said it was also to improve learning environments for children in underserved communities.

She said the initiative was inspired by simple, yet powerful moment during a needs assessment visit.

“During the visit, while the headmistress, Mrs. Okonkwo Anulika was introducing my team, one of the pupils, Master Iganga Olisa, innocently quipped, “Paint our class!”

“That singular statement stayed with me and led to a complete shift in project focus.

“What began as a plan to donate writing boards turned into a mission to restore the dignity of these learning spaces.

“Today, that young boy’s voice has inspired something truly meaningful.

“This is part of our Basic Education and Literacy project mission.

“To enhance education and promote child-friendly learning environments in local schools.”

The occasion attracted support including Assistant Gov. of Rotary District, Rtn Flora Mbaeli, who commissioned the project and performed the ribbon-cutting.

Also present was the Project Chair, Rtn Kingsley Ndukwu and other dedicated Rotarians.

Other contributions from members included donation of exercise books and biros by Rtn Chinedu Oguezi to supportstudents.

A total of five cartons of biscuits was donated by Rtn Ijeoma Obiaku to the children.

The event featured dance performances by the students.
