Fact-check: Story on fresh INEC job vacancies not true

The recent post announcing fresh job vacancies at Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has been found to be false.

Claims:

An online blog, Gistmate.com, in the month of September, 2025 posted an advertisement which claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced fresh job vacancies. Some of the positions advertised by the blog were listed as Grade levels 07 to 14. It also announced processes for the application. Job seekers were requested to click the link: www.inecrecrutment.com

The Fact:

The Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) Truth Ambassadors reviewed the post and clicked on the mentioned link, which, contrary to the blog’s claims, redirected to a betting site, indicating it was a clickbait. Additionally, upon checking the official X (Former Twitter) account of INEC @inecnigeria, we found that the electoral body had also debunked a similar fake advertisement.

However, INEC had through its website, inecnigeria.org had earlier announced opening for ad-hoc staff positions ahead of the Anambra State, November 8 governorship poll. The application which opened on September 15 is scheduled to close on October 5, 2025.

Finding: The story of fresh job vacancies is false

In conclusion, the INEC did not advertise for fresh job vacancies but for recruitment into the various Ad hoc positions needed for effective conduct of Anambra State November 8 gubernatorial poll.  SIDEC Truth Ambassadors humbly calls on the public, particularly citizens in Anambra State to disregard this call for applications but encourages qualified citizens to apply as Ad hoc Staff on the INEC authentic website.
