Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state plans to partner with Ministries, Department and Agencies to ensure safety of road users in the state.
Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander disclosed this on Tuesday during a visit to the Head of Service, Theodora Igwegbe
She identified ignorance and disobedience to traffic rules as major causes of road crashes in the state.
She said the meeting was to leverage on strategic position of the Head of Service to mobilise workers for reorientation on traffic regulations.
“I’ve been meeting with other MDAs. But today we decided to meet with you to further get the buy-in of workers to the activities of FRSC.
“As a lead agency in traffic management in Nigeria, our mandate is to ensure safety of traffic users.
“We do this through collaborations and public enlightenment.
“Although we’re virtually in every local government areas of the state, but we can’t be everywhere.
“That’s why we partner with states and encourage them to have their own traffic agencies.
“As the arrow head of all ministries in the state, getting you, for us makes it easier to get almost all other MDAs,” she said.
“We’ve noticed that many Nigerians either ignore traffic rules or knowingly violate them, assuming there are no consequences.
“A common example is the failure to yield to traffic from the left at roundabouts—a global rule many are unaware of, which often leads to accidents.
“We’d like to explore the possibility of organizing a reorientation workshop for staff under your ministry.
“Additionally, we request your staff’s support in reporting emergencies to us via our toll-free number, 122, at any time of day.

Road Safety, Part of Gov. Soludo’s Agenda
Responding, HoS assured closer collaboration with the FRSC towards achieving it’s mandate, expressing optimism of positive results.
“I know that sensitisation matters a lot and safety and lives of road users is important to Mr Governor and all of us.
“We’ll also assist you through whistle blowing policy of ‘If you see something, say something.”
“I’m optimistic the partnership is going to yield fruitful results to the benefits of the people of the state.
” I’ll follow up the training request to ensure its speedy approval and implementation,” she added.
