The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, is dead.
Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, announced the death of the senior police officer on Saturday in Umuahia, disclosing that he died after battling cancer.
Otti expressed sadness over the demise of the late AIG, whom he described as a hardworking and dedicated officer.
The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force, his family and associates over the loss.
A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the deceased at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, where Governor Otti made the announcement while delivering his acceptance speech after emerging as the Labour Party candidate for a second term in office.
The late Uzuegbu was serving as the AIG in charge of Zone 9 Command headquartered in Umuahia before his death.
