Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide, in collaboration with southern Nigeria ethnic youth leaders, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could suffer electoral setbacks in the South-East if Gov. Hope Uzodimma was removed as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).
The President of the group, Amb. Arthur Obiora, made the allegation at a news conference on Friday in Awka.
Obiora said the alleged move to remove Uzodimma from the leadership of the forum could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election efforts in the south-east ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the development could weaken the APC’s support base in the region and negatively affect the party’s electoral fortunes.
According to him, youths in the South-East remained solidly behind Uzodimma because he is a credible political rallying point for the region.
Obiora also claimed that the Imo governor had remained a strong supporter and leading voice for Tinubu within the APC, especially in the south-rast.
He said the group would embark on nationwide protests if any attempt was made to remove the governor from the position.
Alleged Missing N800m
Obiora also dismissed allegations of a missing N800 billion linked to the forum, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated.
He said that the claims were aimed at discrediting the Tinubu administration and creating division among stakeholders within the party.
“The allegation is part of a scheme designed to rubbish the Tinubu administration and destabilise the re-election effort by causing confusion and bad blood among major stakeholders,”he said.
Obiora further alleged that some politicians were seeking to hijack Tinubu’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He claimed that such individuals were uncomfortable with Uzodimma’s influence within the party and his perceived role in the composition of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
According to him, Uzodimma remains a leading voice of the South-East in the APC and has continued to articulate the interests of the region in national policy discussions.
“We urge APC leadership to appreciate Uzodimma’s contributions to the party and refrain from actions capable of weakening the party’s support base in the south-east.
“We also called on President Tinubu to intervene in the matter to prevent further escalation of tensions within the party ahead of the 2027 elections,”he said.
